MudLine — Privacy Policy & Terms of Use
Last updated: 2026-07-03. MudLine is a private, invite-only network for verified ATV owners in the eastern North Carolina Piedmont.
1. Who we are
MudLine ("the app," "we") is operated by the MudLine club administrators. Contact: [email protected]. Membership is invite-only and limited to verified ATV owners; an admin may grant exceptions.
2. What we collect
- Account: username, password (stored only as a salted PBKDF2 hash — never in plain text), your ATV description and optional profile photo, and who invited you.
- Precise location, only when you use a location feature: recording a trail, follow-me navigation, the ride check-in beacon, or reporting a hazard. Location powers app functionality and rider safety. We do not sell location or use it for advertising or cross-app tracking.
- Content you post: trails, ratings, reviews, warnings, hazard reports, chat and direct messages, marketplace listings, and photos/videos you attach.
- Emergency card (optional): emergency contact, blood type, allergies — visible to fellow verified members so they can help you in an emergency.
3. How location is used
The ride check-in beacon periodically records your position while a ride is active so that, if you miss your check-in time, the club can find you. On native apps this may run in the background with your permission; you can stop a ride at any time to end it. Danger-zone alerts compare your position to hazards other members reported.
4. Who can see your data
Only verified members of your MudLine club. Direct messages are visible only to their participants; group messages only to the group; private trails only to riders you choose. Nothing is shared with third parties except the infrastructure needed to run the app (map tiles from OpenStreetMap, weather/elevation from Open-Meteo, and push-notification delivery). We do not sell your data.
5. Your choices
- Turn notifications and location permissions on or off in your device settings.
- Change your password or edit/remove your profile and emergency card anytime.
- Request deletion of your account and content by emailing the address above; we remove it within 30 days.
6. Community rules (EULA)
By using MudLine you agree to a zero-tolerance policy for objectionable content and abusive behavior: no harassment, threats, hate speech, spam, scams, or illegal-activity coordination. Ride legally and respect landowners — trail access notes and permission fields exist for that reason.
- Report any content or member using the report (🚩) control in the app. Reports go to club leadership.
- Leadership reviews reports and may remove content and ban members. Banned members lose all access immediately.
- The marketplace is member-to-member. MudLine does not process payments, take a cut, or guarantee any transaction — deal at your own risk and meet safely.
- MudLine is a coordination tool, not an emergency service. The check-in beacon and SOS depend on cell/GPS coverage and other members responding; do not rely on it as your only safety plan in the backcountry. Carry a real emergency plan and, where lives may depend on it, a dedicated satellite beacon.
7. Security
Passwords are hashed (PBKDF2-SHA256). Traffic is served over HTTPS. Access is rate-limited and login attempts are locked out after repeated failures. Security-relevant actions (logins, bans, reports) are logged.
8. Children
MudLine is for adults who own ATVs. It is not directed to children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect their data.
9. Changes
We may update this policy; material changes will be announced in the app. Continued use after a change means you accept it.
